Local fans of Alex Warren have had plenty of chances to see the YouTuber-turned-recording artist in Charlotte this year.

For those who missed the opportunity to see the singer-songwriter during his back-to-back spring performances in the Queen City — The Underground on May 3 followed by a slot at the Lovin’ Life Music Fest on May 4 — perhaps the third time was a charm on Sept. 30 as Warren made a stop at Skyla Amphitheatre on his Cheaper Than Therapy tour.

Despite his own admission that he’s the “the most average white dude you could ever think of,” he’s broken through as a superstar on the pop charts this year, first breaking a streak previously set by Elvis in the UK during the spring and then breaking a 31-year record for most weeks atop Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart earlier this week.

It would appear good news follows Warren on his trips to Charlotte, as did the “Ordinary” singer’s an energetic and lively opener, NYC-based indie-pop singer Maude Latour.

A few technical difficulties behind the scenes were easily eclipsed by the good vibes at the Music Factory on Tuesday night. Concertgoers wore LED cowgirl/cowboy hats while many of the younger fans held colorfully crafted signs and gifts for Warren, chanting his name until he appeared on stage.

Warren clearly put a ton of care into his set, which was as funny as it was entertaining. In between powerful performances of songs like “On My Mind” and “Who I Am,” Warren took part in amusing banter with fans, likely a skill he learned during his come up on social media.

Laughter and smiles spread through the venue while Warren read his fans’ signs. Known for sharing his experiences of growing up, loss, homelessness, self-discovery and falling in love, the singer transformed the venue into such a safe and open space for fans, reassuring them that they are not alone in their struggles.

“Raise your hand if you’ve ever lost someone,” he said. From left to right, a wave of hands shot up slowly then all at once. “Look around. This is a room where everyone understands that feeling.”

Concluding his show, Warren expressed gratitude toward his team, family and fans who showed up on Tuesday night.

As a young person seeing Alex Warren live for the first time, having missed both his May performances in Charlotte, I left the venue with my expectations exceeded.

If there is one word that I would describe Warren’s show in Charlotte, it would have to be empathetic. All throughout his performance, I was wholeheartedly impressed with how he connected with his fans and had vulnerable and witty conversations with complete strangers.

Warren will head overseas for an international tour in 2026, so it’s unlikely you’ll have three opportunities to see him in Charlotte like we did this year, but if you do have a chance to see him perform, I’d highly recommend doing so.
