“I saw Alexander Stewart and/or Emmy Meli in a small club once…” It’s a quote you might hear from people down the road should either of these singers hit it as big as they likely deserve to be.
Stewart, the Monday night headliner at Charlotte’s Underground, offered plenty of pop songs paired with piles of rizz. It’s that kind of stage presence that propels singers from smaller venues into the limelight and Stewart showcased it throughout his set. After all, Stewart’s music has been streamed more than half a billion times.

Meli opened the night with a 30-minute set featuring her powerhouse soul-infused vocals and hints of humor. Her vocal range sounded effortless as she teased hints of rasp, soaring falsetto and everything in between with ease. She shared some new music that was released late last week, as well as her song of empowerment, “I am Woman,” telling the crowd she wrote one of the verses while working at a golf course.

“This is your sign to stop hiding your art and share it with the world,” she said.
