Chance the Rapper Makes Long-Awaited Carolinas Return
...with Hurricane Wisdom, TiaCorine; TD Amp Ballantyne

By the time confetti was pouring down on the rain-soaked crowd at TD Amp Ballantyne on Friday night, fans had certainly gotten their fill of what was billed as a Carolinas homecoming for Chance the Rapper.
The rapper, who spent his childhood summers with his mother’s side of the family in Pilot Mountain, hadn’t performed in the Carolinas in nearly 10 years. A few weeks ago, he visited the area to help promote the show — stopping by record stores, doing media interviews and visiting family.

With so much buzz around his return, it’s no surprise he literally bounded out on to the stage to kick off his performance. He’ll return to Raleigh later this year for his tour supporting the 10th anniversary of his critically acclaimed album, Coloring Book. Fans at the south Charlotte show heard most of the tracks in his set.
Chance shouted out family, did his best to connect with the crowd, gave a three-song spotlight to “Barbie Doll” collaborator Hurricane Wisdom, and gave all those in attendance a reason to stay through the spotty weather.

The night started with a 30-minute set from Winston-Salem rapper TiaCorine, who offered samples of many of her songs and even found time for a dance battle featuring five members of the crowd.
