Charlie Puth Transitions Show for Skyla After Move from Spectrum
...with Lawrence & Ally Salort

With all the talk of “blue dot fever” going around these days — referencing the epidemic of unsold tickets shown in seating charts at arenas around the country — maybe it’s no surprise that Charlie Puth, who was originally scheduled to perform at Spectrum Center, had his show moved to the smaller Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre on Monday night.
Puth lucked out and avoided the rainstorms that were scattered about in the area on Monday night. However, seeing him perform on the smaller stage made it clear how his entire setup was ready to go for an arena — bright lights, backup singers and an entertaining show from start to finish.

Puth often bounced between a piano and keyboard perched at the front of the stage as he crooned and sang his way through 18 songs of his pop songs, sometimes swinging his arm around in a conductor’s manner to direct the band behind him.
Providing some hope of a cameo, his second-to-last song was “See You Again,” a collaboration with rapper Wiz Khalifa, who was in town the previous night on a tour stop with MGK at Truliant Amphitheater. With no tour stop scheduled for June 1, Wiz could have stuck around for a surprise appearance before heading to Raleigh for his June 2 show, but no such luck.

One of two opening acts, Lawrence nearly stole the spotlight from Puth, performing a fun, high-energy set of seven songs, including their cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic.”
The brother-sister duo of Clyde and Gracie Lawrence, backed by horns and a band, got the crowd going — and there were plenty of people dressed in shirts and ties to mimic the typical style of Gracie, who opted for a different look this evening.

From Charlotte, Puth’s Whatever’s Clever! tour continues on to Atlanta and throughout the South before heading overseas later this month.
