Check Out Your Library Tour Comes to Charlotte
Free events from Aug. 14-16 highlight library resources

A national immersive library tour has arrived in Charlotte with an aim to bring awareness of the resources available in public and school libraries.
The Check Out Your Library movement and national tour is hosted by OverDrive — the company behind apps Libby, Sora, and Kanopy that allow users to access digital content, e-books, and video streaming free from their local library.
Charlotte’s stop on the tour is in partnership with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and runs from Aug. 14-16 with free events at locations such as Protagonist Beer, Truist Field and Keith Family YMCA.
Author Emily Farris kicked things off with a book signing at Protagonist Beer on Aug. 14.
Farris’ book, I’ll Just Be Five More Minutes, explores the author’s life with a late ADHD diagnosis.
For anyone attending the Charlotte Knights game on Aug. 15, they can couple the game with a tour event. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library will be in and around Truist Field from 4-11 p.m., starting in front of the main gate at the corner of West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Mint Street, to share resources and show visitors how to use OverDrive’s Libby, Kanopy and Sora apps to get the most out of their public and school libraries.
Library representatives will hold a pop-up storytime at 6:15 p.m. and will also station themselves inside the stadium starting at 6:30 p.m. during the game.
The final event for Charlotte’s stop on the Check Out Your Library tour is on Aug. 16 at Keith Family YMCA from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The YMCA is located at 8100 Old Mallard Creek Road. This is a unique immersive experience that will allow visitors to explore both OverDrive’s library vehicle, called “LV,” as well as Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s mobile library known as “MoLi.”
Children will also get to engage with Peppa Pig activity and coloring sheets, Peppa Pig books and products from Lego and Duplo.
