After winning their first American League Hockey championship by finishing off the Chicago Wolves on Saturday, the Charlotte Checkers returned home to Bojangles’ Coliseum with the Calder Cup to celebrate with hundreds of fans on Monday night.

Fans had the chance to take pictures with the Cup, get autographs from players and chill with Chubby the Checker.

For season-ticket-holder Toni Hitchcock, who said she only missed four home games of 38 throughout the season, the night was a perfect way to wrap up a glorious season.

“To see the Checkers win the Calder Cup felt like a joyous release,” Hitchcock said, “then being able to celebrate with those boys upon their return home was nothing short of amazing. Their giddiness was infectious, and we’re so proud of the team and all they accomplished.”

Queen City Nerve contributor Grant Baldwin was on hand Monday night to shoot photos. He captured some of the aforementioned giddiness below.
