Community Members Mourn Danquirs Franklin Following Video Release

Protesters and mourners gathered in Marshall Park, Charlotte NC, in response to the release of CMPD body cam footage of police officer Wende Kerl shooting and killing Danquirs Franklin on March 25, 2019.

More than 50 people showed up to Marshall Park on Monday evening to mourn the death of Danquirs Franklin following the release of body cam footage earlier in the day showing his death at the hand of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Wende Kerl on March 25.

Protesters spoke on issues regarding racism and police violence, with some stating that the black community could not wait for local leaders to fix the issue, but that community members should look within for answers by coming together and relying on each other. Despite concerns from government officials earlier in the morning, there were no discussions of violence or unrest at Monday’s vigil.
