Elle King might have been in the news in recent months due to a drunken debacle at the Grand Ole Opry, but nothing similar happened at The Fillmore Charlotte on Thursday night.
King was in fine form throughout her 75-minute set and simply shined. Her vocals were spot-on and she seemed to be comfortable on stage from start to finish. She even found time to acknowledge her 2-year-old son, Lucky, who was near the stage for the first part of the show.

Showcasing a blend of country, soul and the blues, King’s vocals hit the right notes and carried plenty of emotion, leading all the way up to the crescendo of “America’s Sweetheart.” If King hinted at any of her past problems, it was only by saying, “I always seem to find trouble” shortly into the evening’s set. Outside of that, it was business as usual for a fine performance that simply sounded outstanding.
