Congolese Independence Day at Camp North End

June 30 | 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

On June 30, a Congolese Independence Day event is coming to Camp North End in Charlotte. MacFly Fresh–Charlottean business owners of Congolese descent–are teaming up with humanitarian Emmanuel Ntibonera for a night of music, cultural celebration and education.

The question of the night: Is Congo really free?

Despite sitting atop some of the world’s richest mineral deposits, the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains among the least developed nations of the world. Exploitation, violence, child labor, corrupt leadership–year after year, others continue to profit off the backs of the Congolese. Ntibonera shares his inspiring story of survival in the midst of unbelievable hardship–from living through wars in his motherland, surviving brutal infections in a jungle village and facing starvation as a refugee–as a way to open the eyes of the world to the plight of his people with the dream to bring real, lasting change to the Congo.
