Drawing on her mother’s love of Indian classical music, Delhi-born playback singer Kavita Krishnamurti rocketed to fame in the 1980s and ’90s. Lauded by critics as India’s “melody queen,” Krishnamurti’s supple vocals are hauntingly beautiful, filled with both longing and joy. She has won several awards including the Filmfare (India’s equivalent of the Oscar) for Best Female Playback Singer.
