One of the hottest jam bands in the scene hit Charlotte’s PNC Music Pavilion on Saturday night for a night of good vibes that couldn’t be dampened by the weather.

Despite lingering storms in the area, the concert went off without a hitch. Goose hit the stage around 7:45 p.m. and rolled through a first set that lasted just over an hour, including a cover of “Me and My Uncle” (made popular by the Grateful Dead) and the closer “Hungersite.”

The second set featured four lengthy tunes before the band returned for an encore of “Give It Time.” Often compared to bands like Phish and Umphrey’s McGee, the lyrics are fun, the grooves are solid and the jams propel the songs forward in a more purposeful way than the wandering noodling that can sometimes be stereotypical of the genre.

Though the Connecticut quartet formed 11 years ago and refers to themselves as “indie groove,” it’s only been in the last handful of years that they’ve truly grown into a festival favorite and jam-scene stalwart.

The band released two albums this year, Everything Must Go and Chain Yer Dragon, helping to build their fanbase — though as with many jam bands, their live show is where they truly shine.

Only last summer, the band was performing at the much smaller Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre, showing how far the band has come in such a short time.

The band will wrap up its current leg of the tour in the coming days before heading down to Florida at the end of the month for Suwanee Hulaween.
