Local Pop Singer Lynsea in ICU After Car Wreck
GoFundMe campaign launched to help artist who was struck by impaired driver

Family and friends of renowned Charlotte pop artist Lynsea are asking for support this week as the singer recovers from a harrowing car wreck that occurred on Saturday and has put Lynsea in the ICU.
According to close friend Kylee Brooks, who launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with what promises to be a long recovery process, Lynsea was driving her sister to the airport on Saturday afternoon when their car was struck by an impaired driver not far from Lynsea’s house.
Lynsea’s sister, Chelsea, was admitted to the ICU but later discharged to continue her recovery at home. Lynsea reportedly suffered a significant brain injury and had to undergo emergency surgery, which went well, according to Brooks.
“She is currently in the ICU in Charlotte, NC being cared for by a wonderful team including friends/colleagues,” Brooks wrote on the campaign page, which she launched on Monday. “She is incredibly strong and is making progress each day, but she will have a very long road to recovery.”
In an update on Wednesday, Brooks thanked supporters for their donations, which were nearing $34,000 at the time of this writing. She also updated supporters on Lynsea’s condition, which has been filled with “ups and downs.”
Brooks said Lynsea recovered impressively from her first brain surgery, coming off the ventilator relatively quickly and interacting with family members — even standing during her second try at physical therapy.
However, she has also seen her share of setbacks in the days following the wreck, undergoing a second minor surgery for an issue unrelated to her brain injury and going back on the ventilator due to reactions to that surgery and medication.
“Given how well she did coming off the first time, we are hopeful she will pass with flying colors when they do their tests to see when she is ready,” Brooks wrote in her latest update. “After all, the girl did graduate from school early twice already and I don’t see her starting to slack anytime soon.
“The next day or so will hopefully be uneventful and restful for everyone,” Brooks continued. “I will try to update every couple of days or as big things happen.”
Named Best Pop Artist in Queen City Nerve’s 2024 Best in the Nest issue, we first covered Lynsea as an artist earlier that year upon the release of her single “hormones.”
Most recently, we wrote about the innovative rollout of her latest single “last call,” which included the creation of small musical toys inspired by the early-aughts Tiger Electronics product HitClips.
In a heartfelt email newsletter from Rick Thurmond with Music Everywhere CLT on Wednesday afternoon, he recalled how he had recently brought his teenage daughter Molly to a Lynsea show at Snug Harbor, where they were greeted by the singer.
“[Lynsea] welcomed Molly, who was uncomfortable in the unfamiliar setting,” Thurmond wrote. “Lynsea was warm and kind and made Molly smile. Later, she slayed on stage and made at least one new fan.
“Lynsea’s musical journey has been an inspiration to me, and I was devastated when I saw the news,” Thurmond continued. “But Lynsea’s bright light is fueled by an inner strength that I believe in. I can’t wait to see her smile at a Music Community Hang and see her on a stage again. Until then, let’s let Lynsea know we’ve got her, because that’s what community does.”
