North Carolina Pastor Who Peed on Woman Identified

Thanks to a FOIA request filed with the Wayne County Airport Authority, Queen City Nerve has learned that the “well-known North Carolina pastor” accused of peeing on a woman during a flight this month is Daniel Chalmers, co-founder and president of Love Wins Ministries. The Love Wins website lists Chalmers’ home church as Catch the Fire Raleigh-Durham. 

A police report states that Chalmers was found to be intoxicated upon his arrest, with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit to drive a car, and told officers he had also taken prescription medicine. He has since blamed the incident on a bad reaction to sleep aids, emphasizing that there was no malicious intent and reaching out to the victim to ask forgiveness and attempt to make things right.

News of the incident first broke in a Fox 2 Detroit report following the Oct. 12 flight, during which Alicia Beverly said she woke up from a nap to the feeling of something warm and wet on her and looked up to see the suspect’s exposed penis, which he then tucked away.

Fox 2 Detroit did not report the suspect’s name, citing policy, though the police report confirms that Daniel Chalmers is the suspect. 

The report gives details about how the incident unfolded. A little before 2:30 a.m., an off-duty police officer on the flight witnessed Chalmers leave his chair and walk to the back of the plane, where Beverly was sitting. The officer stated he noticed Chalmers side-stepping as if waking from sleep or dealing with the pitch of the aircraft, but didn’t think much of it. Shortly thereafter, the officer heard a scream before Beverly yelled, “He peed on me!”

According to the report, when the officer approached Chalmers and asked what he had done, Chalmers replied, “I peed on her. I thought I was going to the bathroom.” He was sent to the bathroom before the same officer questioned him. By that time, Chalmers was denying the entire incident, stating, “I am a pastor, that is out of my character and I didn’t do it.” He denied having drunk any alcohol, though he did admit that he had taken prescription medicine.

At one point, Daniel Chalmers told the officer, “Feel me,” so as to prove that he hadn’t peed on himself, according to the report. 

The officer warned Chalmers that if he caused any further disturbance he would be zip-tied to his seat, then went to speak with Beverly, who stated she wished to prosecute and “would respond to any summons sent to her by the Court,” according to the report. In the Fox 2 Detroit report, Beverly stated she had to sit in her wet clothes for the remaining hours of the flight. 

As Chalmers exited the flight, “he advised the Captain of his intention to sue Delta Airlines for defamation of character for their treatment of him,” the report alleges.

Upon being taken into custody at the airport, Chalmers said he did not feel good, then “stated he had a couple drinks and he was taking prescribed medicine.” A preliminary breath test turned up a 0.175 blood alcohol content. Chalmers was then turned over to the FBI, which investigates all incidents that occur on airplanes. 

The FBI has refused to comment on the case, and Chalmers has not yet faced any charges related to the incident.

In June, a Christian news site published a story about Chalmers and his wife, Shara, spearheading an event in which church members and government officials, including the police chiefs of Apex, Morrisville and Cary, along with the mayor of Cary, washed the feet of protest leaders on the steps of the Cary Police Department following the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. 

On the Love Wins website, Chalmers is said to “function strongly in the prophetic, miracles, signs and wonders.”
