At 21 years old, Olivia Rodrigo has the stage presence of someone twice her age with decades of experience. The pop singer brought her Guts World Tour to Charlotte’s Spectrum Center on Friday, March 8, and shone as brightly as her sequined outfit.

Performing songs from her two albums, 2021’s Sour and 2023’s GUTS, Rodrigo had an entire arena singing along to her every word. First known for her work on the Disney TV programs Bizaardvark and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Rodrigo has stepped out from the House of Mouse to create a stellar career on her own — she’s already won three Grammys.

Rodrigo appeared to have an absolute blast as she danced and spun her way around the stage, singing hits such as “vampire,” “drivers license” and “good 4 u.” She has an uncanny ability to draw the crowd in for a more intimate feeling, more so than one might expect from a solo artist performing in front of a sold-out arena crowd.

Her melancholy undertones and emotional songwriting isn’t often found in the pop landscape, which helps to set her apart from the rest.

From start to finish, throughout two dozen songs, Rodrigo showed she’s a force to be reckoned with on the pop music songwriting scene — and that a sophomore slump is of no concern.
