PHOTOS: Phoebe Bridgers Captivates Sold Out Crowd at CMCU

Long lines don't dampen the spirit in Uptown

When the sold-out Phoebe Bridgers show at The Fillmore Charlotte was moved outdoors to the CMCU Amphitheatre to easier follow COVID-19 protocols, a 2,000-person concert quickly more than doubled in size. The 5,000-capacity venue sold out as well leading up to the Sept. 19 performance.

It’s no surprise that the line to get in was massive as security checked the vaccination/test status of all concert-goers. Add to that the fact that the entire show was now general admission and it led to some confusion on the seats vs. lawn status of ticket holders. By the time opening act Muna took the stage, roughly half the crowd was still making its way in while the energetic pop-rock outfit just wanted to dance the night away.

As for Bridgers, she was worth the wait. Her set was more toned-down after the raucous energy of Muna, but it captivated the sold-out crowd for plenty of sing-alongs. No guitar smashing here, that viral moment’s in the rearview mirror as Bridgers and her growing audience eye a bright future for the 27-year-old singer.
