P!nk Swings into the Hearts of Charlotte Fans

Almost six years ago to the day, P!nk performed at then Time Warner Cable Arena and put on one of the best Charlotte shows of 2013. For those who missed that performance and were lucky enough to attend Saturday night’s tour stop, it was definitely worth the wait.

While plenty of pop singers choreograph their moves, few can sing live while dancing up a storm. Don’t put P!nk in that category. The singer belted out hit after hit while dancing, bouncing, spinning and flying around Spectrum Center. It was a concert-meets-Cirque du Soleil for a theatrical performance that was unlike any other I’ve seen — aside from that P!nk show six years ago.

The night got started with P!nk hanging from a chandelier for “Get the Party Started” and ended with an encore of “So What” while she zipped around the arena’s interior as she was suspended between four cables. She cruised over the floor and shot up to the rafters.

She’d shout out fans between lyrics (subtle reminders of her live singing) and offered video montages to drive home messages of equality and women empowerment in the most feel-good ways possible. She even introduced her daughter after naming all her backup dancers. If I had to complain about anything, it might be that cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” but she even belted that one out beautifully.

From the music to the messages and all the visual acrobatics in between, P!nk puts on a show that goes beyond the ordinary to create a stunning overall experience few artists could possibly compete with.

One male concertgoer near me looked at the woman next to him and said, “Is this the best concert ever, or what?!” I have to think that anyone who may have been dragged to the arena by a friend or date couldn’t haven’t left disappointed.

If you missed out, just hope you don’t have to wait another six years for a chance to catch P!nk in Charlotte again.

The visit will certainly not soon be forgot by the campers of Girls Rock CLT, who sent P!nk a video on Twitter thanking her for being a role model to girls everywhere and telling her about some shirts that they had mailed to her.

Their weekend was made when P!nk responded publicly:
