Why We’re Halting Publication of Queen City Nerve in Print
A word from our editor and publisher

This morning, we should be delivering our latest print issue — Vol. 8, Issue 19, to be specific. Unfortunately, we will not be putting out a new print issue today, nor any new print editions for the foreseeable future.
Due to financial hardships that began in 2025, followed by a continued decline in overall advertising revenue, we have made the decision to stop publishing a print newspaper.
We made the effort to restructure aspects of our business in January to help prevent us from having to close up shop. While that has helped keep the lights on, it hasn’t been enough to allow us to financially support a print publication any longer.
This does not mean that our print newspaper was not worth the investment. In fact, print carried a 93% pick-up rate all over Charlotte for the last seven and a half years. We’ve seen increased engagement on our website and social media platforms.
But continuing to build a loyal readership just hasn’t equated with continued financial growth the way it did from 2018-2024. We reinvested all of our hard-won gains from that period back into the business in hopes of continuing to fill a hole in Charlotte’s media scene for many years to come, but we’ve hit a wall.
We made a promise back in November 2018 to continue the alt-weekly print tradition in Charlotte and we’re proud to have brought 200 issues of our paper to the streets of our city.
The Nerve in print was a lifestyle choice for many Charlotteans, and we are just as beat up about it as our readers are sure to be. We hope to continue bringing our readers the community journalism they’ve come to expect of us at Queen City Nerve, but in the interest of transparency, the future of the business remains unclear at this time.
Some words about our membership
The goal of our membership program is to better connect our readers with their community. Our print subscription offer was one way of doing that; having the paper delivered directly to you. Since we will no longer be offering our content in print, we feel the fair thing to do is limit membership options, and roll higher-level perks down a peg.
Of course, if you would like to make any changes to your account, you can do so here.
All Nerve Memberships have the option to downgrade to a Supporter or Starter Membership if they would like to adjust their contribution. Members who would like to access their account management to either continue support at the same value, or change or cancel your membership can do so here.
Please reach out to info@qcnerve.com with any issues that arise in the process, or if you would like us to make changes to your account for you.
Your membership is what keeps independent, local journalism in Charlotte alive and accessible, even as we cut back on print and tighten budgets, we remain as grateful as ever for our members.
