Miami-based artisanal doughnut and coffee shop The Salty has announced an opening date for its third Charlotte location with plans to open the doors of its Plaza Midwood space on Jan. 2.

The shop is planning grand opening activities through Sunday, including the “Vibe Vault,” awarding prizes like free donuts and coffee, discounts, gift cards, branded merch and more to the first 100 guests each day throughout the weekend.

“Plaza Midwood has such a strong sense of character and community, which aligns perfectly with who we are as a brand,” says Andy Rodriguez, CEO and co-founder of The Salty. “We’re excited to officially open our doors and become part of the neighborhood’s daily routine.”

Having opened its first Charlotte location in the bottom of the Dimensional Funds tower in South End in January 2023, The Salty announced it would open two new locations in Ballantyne and Plaza Midwood back in April 2024.

The Salty’s second location opened in The Bowl at Ballantyne in October of that year. Its Plaza Midwood space is also part of a large-scale mixed-use development known as Commonwealth — technically the name of the neighborhood it is actually located in at the corner of Central and Pecan avenues, but that’s a separate conversation.

The new location will offer The Salty’s full menu, including its signature craft donuts, with year-round and seasonal options; a coffee program and savory food options available throughout the day.

“As with all Salty shops, the space has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the surrounding neighborhood while maintaining the brand’s warm, welcoming aesthetic,” read a release announcing the opening.

Available until 3 p.m., The Salty’s food menu includes the Cragel, a housemade croissant rolled and shaped into a bagel then tossed in everything bagel seasoning; croissant sandwiches; French toast sticks; avocado toast, hot honey ricotta toast and more.

Located at 1711 Commonwealth Ave., Suite 110, the space will be open daily from 6:30 a.m-8 p.m. The shop will offer walk-up service, pre-order pickup and delivery through The Salty’s rewards app and website.

Launched out of a vintage camper in Miami in 2015 by Amanda and Andy Rodriguez, The Salty Donut currently operates locations across Colorado, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. They rebranded to The Salty in 2020 after noticing that many of their customers often shortened the name anyway.
