Lifeline: 5 Things to Do in Charlotte This Week
March 16-22, 2026

Queen City Nerve’s motto has been the same since our start: If you think nothing is happening in Charlotte, you’re not trying. While we’ve always included a Lifeline in our print issue, here’s our online version to help give you weekly reasons to engage.
‘Her Story’
Now through March 28 • various times • Anne Neilson Fine Art • Free
In a celebration of Women’s History Month, Anne Neilson Fine Art gallery brings together three women artists — René Romero Schuler, Juniper Briggs, and Caroline Boykin — in an exhibition exploring identity, strength and emotional storytelling.
Schuler’s signature textured, faceless female figures anchor the show, with layered paint and sculptural surfaces that create a striking visual presence. Briggs and Boykin add bold abstraction and energetic forms, making the exhibition both expressive and visually dynamic.
Shameless Society
Wednesday, March 18 • 7:30 p.m. • The Comedy Club at Duckworths • $13
When it’s firing on all cylinders, a great improv troupe is electric, creating comedy in a side-splitting flash of inspiration. Don’t take our word for it, see Shameless Society generating and conjuring comedy without a net. A Queen City Nerve Readers Pick for Best Improv Troupe in 2023 and 2024 — and runner-up in 2025 — the seven-member ensemble spins unscripted, fully improvised, interactive comedy gold out of audience suggestions.
Taking the crowd’s random thoughts and turning them into unadulterated fun, Shameless Society describes its set of unpredictable, chaotic and highwire humor as “group therapy meets performance art meets your drunk friend oversharing at brunch.”
Popcorn & Playlist
Friday, March 20 • 7:30 p.m.-midnight • Starlight on 22nd • $10
Do you argue with friends about which superhero movies are truly Marvel Cinematic Universe canon? Do you fret about reconciling all the timelines and various webslingers in the Spider-Verse? If so, Popcorn & Playlist invites you to fall into the “void” and spend a few hours outside space and time with people that love comic book movies as much as you.
Hosted by local rapper, actor and comic book author Mason Parker, this cinematic soiree features a screening of Deadpool & Wolverine, Q&A sessions with film and television professionals, group discussions, trivia contests, vendors, food trucks, film-themed drink specials and sounds curated by NEMNCLT.
Old Crow Medicine Show feat. Willie Watson
Saturday, March 21 • 8 p.m. • Neighborhood Theatre • $63
Old Crow Medicine Show’s origin sounds like the folkloric narratives that fuel the band’s rootsy tunes. In 1999, Doc Watson heard four guys busking outside a drug store on a corner where he once played in Boone in the ’50s and gave his approval, immediately inviting them to play at MerleFest that year.

Before going solo in 2014, group co-founder Willie Watson (no relation to Doc) was the guy most influenced by what critic Greil Marcus called “Old Weird America,” jug-band stompers shaking free of the Dust Bowl, apocalyptic blues evoking Jehovah’s wrath and antique field hollers echoing across the decades. So, it’s fitting that Watson rejoins his old bandmates on this tour to embrace the group’s early sound, playing stripped-down versions of OCMS’s first two albums in their entirety.
Boileryard Brunch
Sunday, March 22 • noon-4 p.m. • Camp North End • $5 suggested donation
Spring is in the air and Boileryard Brunch is back at Camp North End for its third season. Every fourth Sunday after the vernal equinox, the green by the giant Legos becomes an open-air gathering place where friends meet, music flows and patrons partake in the city’s best and boldest flavors.
This iteration of Boileryard Brunch, hosted by Dammit Wesley and Jaleta P., offers a tempting menu that goes beyond the typical toast and eggs configuration, offering wings, fried fish, pizza, cocktails, smoothies and more. It’s also a brunch with a beat, as Wesley joins DJ Bria and Texas T to provide the right vibes, plus live art, a Thrift Pony market, and more.
